Distressful NDEs
Unfortunately, a small number of NDEs is distressful. Some start distressful but end well when, for instance, beings of light or the Light itself come to help. Distressful experiences really can be terrifying. People, who go through such an experience, say that it cannot be compared with a nightmare. It is more real than reality. They are in the darkness. The area is gloomy, bare and repelling. Some describe it as hot and some spot a burning, wild smoking blue fire. But most reports are that it is very cold out there. Some see a pit, a hole with mist, from which hands and arms are raised upwards. It smells damp, like decay.
Unclear why
It still is unclear why some people have a distressful experience. A relation between a bad life and a distressful NDE has not been demonstrated (moreover, how would we measure a bad life?). There even are indications that in principle everyone can have such experiences. Maybe it is a product of the dark sides of one's life; we all have these sides somewhere. Nevertheless there seem to be some circumstances in which distressful experiences can occur more often than in other circumstances. An example is suicide. Many people who have undertaken a failed suicide attempt seem to have had a distressful experience. An example
Distressful experiences can really be terrifying. One person described how he is beleaguered, badgered and tormented by creatures that once were human, but now stripped of every impulse of compassion. Later, this man described himself as someone who was too preoccupied with building up his own ego to think about anyone else. He had no time for friends, thought compassion was for the weak, found most people to be a tiresome nuisance, hated the world and had started to drink a lot of alcohol trying to be happy. Fortunately his distressful experience ended well. His conclusion is, that we shouldn’t be too busy with our own ego and that it is better to have compassion with other people, with animals and the whole creation. This person wrote a wonderful book about his experience, which I can recommend to everyone: Howard Storm, My descent into death, a second chance at life, Doubleday (Random House, New York.Change it into a blissful one
From this example and some others I conclude that it seems easy to change a distressful experience into a blissful one. When we want to find the Light or the light area, we have to long for it. We have to send our love to it and ask to be loved. That will be easier when we have some experience with loving during our earthly life. So think about good things, think about love in general and it will be there. According to people with NDEs good and loving thoughts are very important: thoughts in general are very powerful.Want to know more?

She has done great research on this topic. Her blog can be found through: http://dancingpastthedark.wordpress.com/Of course, you can also contact me: Reaction form
